Sussex Drone Club – FPV Drone Racing at “Hidden Valley”

Summer is here! And FirstPersonView are helping to manage the next Sussex FPV Racing and Drone Club event, in association with FPV UK and Team Brighton.

Saturday 18th of July is the date set for our next big event, following on from Cowdray and the Weston Park drone racing events recently. And this time we need your help!

Hidden Valley

Dom Robinson, our man from Team Brighton and who helped instigate our International Drone Day event, has found a little treasure of a field just outside of Brighton, behind Woodingdean. Dom has aptly named this course the ‘Hidden Valley‘ club course. We (mostly Dom!) have been in talks with the farmer, Martin Carr, about holding a multi-event drone day (or two if you camp), where we can have a range of activities on-site:

  • Drone Racing across three venues – Urban X (see abandoned building) / straight line / forest run
  • Drone free flight – DJI type quadcopters and multirotors doing their thing in the fields beyond
  • Valley gliding – gliders doing circuits around the valley

The abandoned building will provide racers some tough but exciting opportunities to put their skills to the test.

In addition to this there will be onsite food and drinks (maybe some tunage?!) and being slightly remote, we need to hire some loos.

For this event we need some funding from the community which will go towards the hire cost of the land from Martin (who may also go on to offer weekend flying passes), loo hire, genny hire and tractor trailer hire for getting us down to the valley! You will park at the top of the track and get a lift down, unless you want to drive down the track…but that’s your call as it’s a bit bumpy.

The fee for the event is £12 per pilot and you are welcome to bring a non-flying guest for free. There will be a catering truck on site. All pilots must have public liability insurance.

tickets

Please present your PayPal receipt at the event

We are also hoping to have viewing screens and marquees – which will be provided by our team, but if you have a genny you can bring along then please let us know! Camping is also welcome on the site, but this will be worked out between you and Martin on the day, depending on how many want to stay over (£10 per pitch).

Let us know as soon as possible if you would like to attend. Tickets must be purchased in advance and are available at FPV UK – all monies (outside of PayPal fees) will go on costs of event (excluding our teams management time, which FirstPersonView will cover, along with some additional kit – marquee, some screens and transmission gear etc.).

We also look forward to hearing from volunteers to help manage the event, marshal and generally co-ordinate racing, safety and post event tidy up!

Location: BN2 7LA – tickets will be checked on entry (this will be your PayPal receipt) and when flying, so keep a copy with you at all times. You must have at least one ticket to attend (i.e. you or your guest must be a pilot).

All skill levels and non-racers welcome!

Many thanks,

FirstPersonView team
